Here is the next of this year’s winners, beautiful packaging for Café on the Green in Morristown, New Jersey.

Owned and operated by newlywed couple Jon and Vita McGloin, and located in the thriving community of Morristown, Café on the Green wants to be known for their exquisite artisan gelatos. The café takes pride in bringing its customers the best in “Old World” comfort, but with a whimsical twist. With over 20 mouth watering and unique flavors of gelato, including the truly special fig flavor, and a hip and healthy menu, the café is a one-of-a-kind place that evokes that nostalgic and “lived in” feel you get when you visit grandma. With its antique furniture and décor, Café on the Green can’t help but feel like home. In addition to their magical gelato, Café on the Green has organic artisanal coffee, classic ice cream, iced dessert delights and classic bistro fare that you can enjoy in their quirky establishment.

When it came to their packaging, the café was looking for their logo to capture the special antique store-front design of their shop, especially focusing on the store’s awning shape and gooseneck lamps which adorn the shop’s window. In addition to that, gelato, the café’s signature dish, had to be showcased, so the multi-scoop design became an integral part of the final design. The entire branding overhaul led to this warm and inviting line of packaging that includes bags, mugs, business cards, cups, cup sleeves, and a custom pastry box for their miniature pastries that look like works of art in their own right.

Based out of the West Indies on the oasis island of Martinique, Cristal Optics is an expert in vision and eye care—it was only natural that they chose S. Walter Packaging for expert help in retail packaging. We had previously produced and imported embossed eurototes with a 3 color logo and special slits for custom ribbon closures, as well as hot stamped, 1 color logo eurototes and frosty bags, for the company. After explaining how Cristal Optics desired a new bag alternative—something reusable that would represent the company’s sunny paradise location, as well as work well with both men and women—a new bag was born.

The new bag, an 8x5x10 custom pp non–woven 4–color process printed tote, lights up with its tropical scenery and picturesque art work that would appear on the front and the back of the bag, along with a cloud motif for the side gussets. Colorful and eye-catching, this packaging catches consumer’s eyes and stands out in the crowd while walking through busy and shop filled shopping malls at resorts. To suit both men and women shoppers, black handles were chosen for the final design and actually complimented the bag perfectly.
