Digital Printing is a more modern technique that allows digital files to be printed by a laser or ink-jet printer onto various packaging substrates, including plastic bags, gift card boxes, labels, and gift cards.
The Process:
All images or artwork is created digitally through programs such as Illustrator. The images are created using templates for the specific product being printed. A digital laser or ink-jet printer then prints the digital file onto the plastic bag, ribbon, label, or other substrate.
Advantages:
Can print many colors with very tight registration. No plates required.
Disadvantages:
Not available in short-run for all substrates, like paper bags.
