Ink Printing is a form of post-printing which utilizes a flexible “relief” plate, and is often referred to as “flexo printing”. The flexible, often rubber, plate is dipped in liquid ink and stamped onto the paper or plastic bag or apparel box.
The Process:
Ink Printed products are made by first creating resilient relief image plate out of rubber or a photo polymer material. This plate is then affixed to plate cylinders and is inked by an ink-metering roll that carries a fast-drying fluid ink to the plates. Flexography is a rotary printing method – for every revolution of the printing plate cylinder, which the plate is attached to, one imprint is produced.
Advantages:
Flexographic ink printing can be done on a wide variety of absorbent and non-absorbent substrates The process uses fast-drying inks, and can print wet ink over dry ink, allowing for tight registration on images Can PMS match a specific color – $75.00 per color; use PMS Match plate charges
Disadvantages:
Some paper substrates or uncoated surfaces absorb the ink differently, so the overall ink color appearance may vary. For these difficult substrates, we recommend hot stamping
